Q: Who recommended this book? Why?
Michael: "Adam recommended it to me. Adam had read the book already and knew how awesome the story was, and how special Zappos and its founder Tony Hsieh He also had the chance to visit Zappos in Las Vegas, and it had a major impact on him."
Q: What lesson(s) did you learn from the book & how will you apply it to your business?
Michael: "I learned so many things from this book it is tough to nail down one specific lesson. Overall after reading the book, I knew that I wanted our company's culture to model the culture at Zappos. From the start we wanted our company to be a place where people enjoy coming to work, and so far I think we have been able to emulate Zappos in that regard."
Q: What is your number one takeaway from this book?
Michael: "It's ok to make work fun. Part of what Zappos does is they make work not feel like work. Adam and I both believe in balancing work and life, but not in the traditional sense of work life balance. When you love what you do, work just becomes a part of living your life. At Atrium we are focused on creating meaningful relationships, and investing in people through real estate. That doesn't stop at 5:30pm when the office hours say we are closed, it just becomes a part of how we live our lives, and the line between work and play tends to fade away."
